Transport and buffering of injection moulded parts for international automotive supplier

Instrument panel manufacturing requires a conveyor system with ultimate flexibility: in addition to pure conveyor functions, it also needs to perform tasks such as buffering and bridging differently paced processes. Grupo Antolin took over Magna Intier’s plant in Straubing in 2015 and installed a Skyfall system that links together two core processes in instrument panel manufacturing: injection moulding the plastic structural shell and foam encapsulating/applying the dashboard skin.

Challenge / Project goal

  • Storage capacity for 2800 injection moulded parts (instrument panels)
  • Control of left and right-hand drive parts as well as empty trolleys in the same system
  • Compliance with FIFO within a production shift
  • Process connection or decoupling of the injection moulding machine and further processing
  • Connection different fire compartments
  • 50-second cycle at the loading and unloading station
